Contractor Moves 11,000 lb Beam Inside Shopping Mall
A contractor moves a 60 foot, 11,000-pound steel beam inside a California shopping mall with Air Casters. Utilizing 2 innoAIRvation Air Planks rated at 16,000 pounds each, the beam was moved several hundred feet negotiating tight turns, narrow walkways, inclines, kiosk, and other minimal clearance areas. Once the final location was reached, the beam was raised by crane via roof access and installed for structural modifications. A strategic move with limited time, demanding precision maneuverability, and required reduced floor loading to protect the expensive floor tiles.
Due to grout lines of the tile, 20 Gauge sheet metal was overlaid creating a continuous path for the casters to operate. An air supply hose was routed through the travel path to allow the supply hose to trail behind following the beam as it travelled the narrow path. Operating at only 9 to 10 psi per Air Caster, the Air Planks were inflated enabling a few men to negotiate the tight path moving the beam several hundred feet in the matter of minutes saving time, labor and eliminated the possibility of costly floor damage and repairs.
